If you’re expecting a baby, you may be wondering when to book your newborn photographer. In Miami, I recommend reserving your newborn session during pregnancy, ideally sometime in your second trimester or early third trimester.
You do not need to know exactly when your baby will arrive. Your due date simply reserves space on my calendar, and once your baby is born, we choose the actual session date.
Newborn sessions are best photographed during those early days when your baby is still tiny, sleepy, curled up, and brand new. Because that window passes quickly, it’s always better to plan ahead rather than wait until after delivery to start looking for a photographer.
Why Should You Book a Newborn Photographer During Pregnancy?

Newborn photography is different from other types of portrait sessions because babies arrive on their own schedule. Your due date gives us a general timeframe, but the actual session date remains flexible.
When you reserve your newborn session during pregnancy, I place your due date on my calendar and make sure there is room around that time. Then, once your baby arrives, you simply reach out and we schedule the session based on your baby’s birth date and how you’re both feeling.
Booking ahead also gives you time to plan without feeling rushed. You can ask questions, think about wardrobe, decide whether you want parent and sibling photos, and feel confident knowing your session is already taken care of before life gets busier.
The first few weeks after a baby arrives are beautiful, emotional, and exhausting. The last thing most parents want to do during that time is research photographers, compare websites, send inquiries, and try to find last-minute availability.
Planning during pregnancy gives you one less thing to worry about once your baby is here.
When Is the Best Time to Take Newborn Photos?

The best time to photograph a newborn is usually within the first two weeks after birth.
During this stage, babies are often sleepier and more naturally curled up, which allows for those cozy newborn poses and tiny detail photos parents love. Their hands, feet, lashes, lips, and little stretches all change so quickly.
That said, every baby is different. Some babies arrive early. Some arrive late. Some need extra time at the hospital. Some are wide awake during their session. Some need more feeding, cuddling, or soothing breaks.
That is all completely normal.
A newborn session should never feel rushed or stressful. My sessions are baby-led, which means we follow your baby’s pace. If your baby needs to eat, be changed, be held, or take a break, we pause. The goal is not to force a baby into a schedule. The goal is to create a calm, safe, beautiful experience while documenting this fleeting stage.
What If My Baby Comes Early or Late?

This is one of the most common concerns parents have when booking newborn photos.
The good news is that your session date is not locked in when you book. Your due date acts as a placeholder. Once your baby arrives, we adjust from there.
If your baby comes early, we schedule based on when your baby is home and ready for photos. If your baby comes late, we move the session accordingly. If you need extra recovery time, we take that into consideration too.
Babies rarely follow the calendar perfectly, and that is expected. Newborn photography is built around flexibility.
Is It Too Late to Book Newborn Photos After the Baby Is Born?
If your baby has already arrived and you haven’t booked a newborn photographer yet, it is still worth reaching out.
While I recommend booking during pregnancy whenever possible, beautiful newborn images are still possible after the first two weeks. Older newborns may be a little more alert, a little less curled up, or need more time to settle, but that does not mean you missed your chance.
Awake newborn photos can be absolutely beautiful. Bright eyes, little stretches, parent cuddles, wrapped images, and close-up details are all meaningful parts of a newborn gallery.
If your baby is already here, don’t assume it’s too late. Reach out and we can talk through availability and what type of session makes the most sense for your baby’s age.
How Far in Advance Should I Reserve My Newborn Session?
Most expecting parents should reserve their newborn session sometime between 20 and 32 weeks of pregnancy.
Booking in the second trimester or early third trimester gives you the best chance of securing availability and planning calmly before the final weeks of pregnancy.
If you are already further along, don’t panic. It is still worth reaching out. I will always let you know what availability looks like and whether I can accommodate your due date.
As a general rule, the earlier you reach out, the better — especially if you have a specific photographer in mind.
What Happens After I Book?
After you reserve your newborn session, the process is simple.
Your due date is placed on my calendar so I know approximately when to expect your baby’s arrival. As your due date gets closer, you do not need to update me constantly unless something major changes.
Once your baby is born, you contact me within the first few days so we can choose the best session date. From there, I’ll guide you through everything you need to know before coming to the studio.
You do not need to arrive knowing how to pose, what to do, or how your baby will behave. I take care of the flow of the session and gently guide you through the process.
What If My Baby Won’t Sleep?

Please do not worry if your baby does not sleep the entire session.
Newborn photography is not about having a “perfect” baby. It is about documenting your baby exactly as they are in those first days of life.
Some babies sleep deeply. Some are awake and alert. Some need extra feeding breaks. Some want to be held more. Some settle beautifully once wrapped. All of that is normal.
Awake newborn photos can be incredibly sweet, especially when your baby makes eye contact or gives those tiny expressions that already feel like their personality beginning to show.
A beautiful newborn gallery can include sleepy photos, wrapped photos, awake portraits, parent cuddles, sibling images, family portraits, and all the tiny details you never want to forget.
Should Parents and Siblings Be Included?

Yes. I always encourage parents to be in at least a few photographs with their newborn.
Even if you feel tired, emotional, or not quite like yourself yet, these images will matter. Your baby will never be this tiny in your arms again. Years from now, you will want to remember how small they were, how they fit against your chest, and what your family looked like in those first days together.
Siblings can also be included in newborn sessions. I know young children can be unpredictable, especially when adjusting to a new baby, so sibling photos are handled gently and with realistic expectations.
The goal is never forced perfection. The goal is connection.
Sometimes that looks like a big brother kissing the baby’s forehead. Sometimes it looks like a toddler holding a tiny hand for two seconds. Sometimes it looks like everyone cuddled together as a family.
Those real moments often become the most meaningful photographs.
What Should We Wear for Newborn Photos?

For newborn sessions, I usually recommend simple, neutral clothing that keeps the focus on your baby and your family connection.
Soft whites, creams, beige, taupe, blush, light gray, and other gentle tones photograph beautifully. Avoid large logos, busy patterns, neon colors, or anything that distracts from the baby.
Moms often look beautiful in a soft dress, robe, or simple neutral top. Dads look great in a neutral shirt or sweater. Siblings can wear simple dresses, rompers, or soft knits.
You do not need to overthink it. Once your session is booked, I can help guide you toward clothing that photographs well and fits the soft, timeless look of your newborn portraits.
Studio Newborn Photography in Miami

Studio newborn sessions are designed to be calm, comfortable, and fully focused on your baby.
In the studio, we have access to controlled lighting, blankets, wraps, simple props, and everything needed to create a consistent, timeless newborn gallery. A studio session also removes the stress of trying to prepare your home during those first few days after birth.
You do not need to clean your house, move furniture, or worry about whether the light in your home is ideal.
You simply arrive with your baby, and I take care of the rest.
A studio session is especially helpful for families who want a polished, classic newborn gallery with a mix of baby portraits, parent images, sibling photos, and tiny details.
What If I Want a More Natural Newborn Session?
Newborn photography does not have to feel overly posed.
Many families want images that feel soft, simple, and natural. That can absolutely be part of your session. Wrapped images, parent cuddles, awake portraits, tiny detail photos, and relaxed family images all create a gallery that feels meaningful and timeless.
My goal is to create photographs that feel beautiful now and still feel beautiful years from now.
Trends come and go, but images of your baby in your arms, tiny fingers curled around yours, and your family gathered together in those first days will always matter.
Why Booking Early Matters
Newborn sessions require flexibility, time, and careful scheduling. Because babies arrive throughout the month and session dates shift depending on birth dates, I can only take a limited number of newborn clients around each due date.
Booking early helps make sure there is room on the calendar for your family.
It also allows you to feel prepared. Once your session is reserved, you can relax knowing that one of the most important pieces of documenting your baby’s arrival is already taken care of.
When Should You Contact a Miami Newborn Photographer?
If you are expecting, the best time to contact your Miami newborn photographer is during pregnancy — ideally before your third trimester gets too busy.
If your baby is due soon, reach out as soon as you can.
If your baby has already arrived, reach out anyway. Depending on availability, it may still be possible to create beautiful newborn images for your family.
The most important thing is not waiting until the moment feels perfect. Those first days move quickly, and your baby will change more in the first few weeks than you can imagine.
