Zika concerns and your maternity photo shoot

I’ve been asked a lot lately about where to do a maternity photo shoot as Zika concerns grow in Florida. Two of my go to locations (Wynwood and Miami Beach), were both flagged as places for pregnant women to avoid as mosquitos carrying the Zika virus have been linked to those locations. I take these warnings very seriously and would not want to put any of my clients at risk. I am suggesting alternative locations, the best one being inside at my Coral Gables studio. As of today, August 25, 2016, more case of Zika have popped up around Miami and the state of Florida. Until the weather cools down and the mosquitos die off, I feel it’s best for my pregnant clients to avoid being outside for long periods of time. The times of day that I do maternity photo shoots are dawn and dusk because that’s the prettiest light of the day for photographing portraits. Unfortunately it’s also the time of day that mosquitos come out which is why I think it’s best to shoot indoors.

I sometimes hear from people that studio photographs are “cheesy” and posed. I think if you take a look at my gallery you may be surprised at the modern take I have on maternity studio photography. I use solid color backgrounds, and simple solid color gowns and fabrics. I also have a gorgeous window in the studio for silhouettes and black and whites. Here is a link to the gallery of my studio maternity work, and below are some shots from a recent session: https://stephanieanders.com/studiomaternity/

Think you need a reason to book family photos? Here’s why you don’t.

This beach session wasn’t for a birthday, milestone, or special announcement.

Just a mom, a dad, and their son — showing up together and letting the moment unfold 🤍

They laughed, walked along the shore, held hands, and soaked each other in. When they saw their gallery, they loved the images so much they created a gallery wall for their home — a daily reminder of this season of life.

Because this is the reason.
The connection. The bond. The moments that pass too quickly.

If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect” excuse, this is it.
Let’s plan a just because family photoshoot — for the love you’re living right now.

Fall family sessions are in full swing 🍂 This beautiful family invited me to photograph them right behind their building — complete with peaceful water views and two sweet girls with the warmest smiles. Miami may not have the fall colors, but it’s the perfect time for updated family photos by the water 💛
